Money donated through Tribute Funds will go towards our free services for people affected by breast cancer. One of the people who our services has helped is Marie Hecht, who is living with secondary breast cancer and speaks here about how Breast Cancer Care has helped her.
In 2008, after being treated for primary breast cancer and a recurrence, Marie was diagnosed with incurable secondary breast cancer.
'The first thing I did after my first diagnosis was phone the Helpline, which was a godsend. After a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer there were times when I felt empty and on my own. Sometimes I just wanted to talk to a nurse to find out what was going to happen to me – Breast Cancer Care gave me that support.
On the occasions when I don't feel up for conversation, I've emailed the Ask the Nurse service and received in-depth answers straight away from two Clinical Nurse Specialists I've come to know well.
I always say that having Breast Cancer Care there is like having a knowledgeable best friend and I've felt like that the whole time.'
